Answers to common questions about planning, quoting and building a custom concrete pool.
The best starting point is the property itself. These answers explain the information that helps Noffke understand the block and prepare for the first conversation.
How much does a custom concrete pool cost?
Every pool we build is designed around your block, so there's no one-size-fits-all price. The final cost is shaped by size, depth, site access, retaining, and the finishes you choose. We'll walk your site, talk through what you're after, and give you a detailed written quote with no surprises buried in it.
Why concrete instead of fibreglass?
Fibreglass shells come in set shapes and sizes. Concrete lets us build the pool to suit your space — any shape, any depth, with ledges, benches, steps, spas or infinity edges wherever you want them. It's also the stronger option on sloping or tricky blocks, and it's built to last decades.
How long does a pool take to build?
Most of our builds run around 8 to 12 weeks from excavation to handover, depending on the size of the pool and how much surrounding work is involved. Weather, council approvals and trade availability can shift things, which is why we send every client a written update each week so you always know where your build is up to.
What are the stages of a concrete pool build?
In order: site inspection and design, engineering and council approval, excavation, steel fixing, plumbing rough-in, concrete (shotcrete) shell, tiling, equipment install, fencing, interior finish and then filling and handover. We explain each stage as it comes up so you're never wondering what's happening in your backyard.
Do I need council approval to build a pool?
Yes. A swimming pool needs building approval before work starts, which we arrange through a private building certifier along with the engineering documentation. We handle the paperwork — you'll just need to sign a few forms along the way. This process takes roughly 4 to 6 weeks.
Who looks after the engineering and certification?
We do. Your pool is designed by a qualified structural engineer, and the certifier inspects the build at set hold points such as steel and pre-fill. All the compliance documentation is handed to you at the end of the build for your records.
Do you build on sloping or difficult blocks?
Absolutely — it's one of the advantages of concrete. Sloping sites, tight access, retaining walls, rock, and pools built above ground level are all things we deal with regularly. We'll assess the site early so any extra work is priced upfront rather than sprung on you later.
What happens if you hit rock during excavation?
It happens from time to time in South East Queensland. If we strike rock, we'll stop, show you what we've found, explain the options and give you a cost before any extra work goes ahead. You'll never receive a bill for something you haven't approved.
What's included in your quote — and what isn't?
Your quote sets out exactly what's covered, including the pool shell, plumbing, filtration equipment, interior finish and the items we've agreed on. Things like landscaping, extensive paving, pool fencing and electrical connection are quoted separately or excluded, and we'll always make that clear in writing so you can budget properly.
How do payments work?
Payments are made in stages as the build progresses, set out in your building contract before work starts. You'll never be asked to pay for a stage before it's complete.
Do I need a pool fence?
Yes. All pools in Queensland must be enclosed by a compliant safety barrier before the pool can be used, and the pool needs to be registered on the state's pool safety register. We'll talk you through the requirements early so fencing is planned into your project rather than becoming a last-minute scramble.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes — Noffke Pool Co is QBCC licensed (QBCC 151 266 27) and fully insured. Your build is also covered by QBCC home warranty insurance, which we arrange on your behalf.
What warranty do I get?
Your pool shell is covered by a structural warranty of 6.5 years and workmanship and equipment are covered under the terms set out by the manufacturers of the products installed. If something isn't right after handover, call us — we'd much rather fix it than have you live with it.
How will I know what's happening during my build?
You'll receive a written update from us every week covering what's been completed, what's coming up next, and anything we need from you. You'll also have a direct line to our team, so you're never chasing information.
What do I need to do once the pool is finished?
At handover we'll walk you through your filtration equipment, show you how to run and maintain the pool, and hand over all your documentation and warranties. Concrete pools need regular water testing and balancing, especially in the first few weeks while the interior finish settles in — we'll give you a simple maintenance guide to follow.
